Vineyard and terroir
The selected vineyards are in the Comune di Castelnuovo Berardenga, northeast of Siena in the southern part of Chianti Classico. They lie at altitudes of 350–420 metres. The vines are 50 years old on average, with a planting density of 5,400 plants per hectare.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at different times during the first three weeks of October, according to vineyard altitude. Fruit from each terroir is vinified separately. Fermentation takes place at 28–30 °C, followed by 12–15 days of maceration with daily punch-downs.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12–16 months in small and medium-sized oak barrels. After blending and bottling, it matures for a further 6–10 months in bottle.
Label / history
The name Felsina dates to Etruscan times.
