Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

Produced in Niscemi from vineyards at 100 m a.s.l. on loose soil. The vines are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 6,000 plants/ha, with a yield of 50 q/ha.

Grapes

50% Gewürztraminer and 50% Sémillon. Sémillon supplies sweetness, while Gewürztraminer contributes balancing acidity and a clean finish.

Vinification

The grapes are vinified in steel and the wine completes malolactic fermentation. The web page also identifies barrique as the fermentation-vessel material.

Ageing

Twelve months in barriques followed by six months in bottle. The web page specifies an equal division between new and second-use barriques.

Technical data

Terre Siciliane IGT sweet wine. Available in 0.375 L and 0.75 L formats. The first vintage was 2018.

Tasting profile

Pronounced aromatic character and lively acidity frame balanced sweetness. Dried fruit, honey and rose are the defining flavours, and the finish remains clean rather than excessively sweet.

Serving and pairing

Designed for desserts and also suited to mild or delicate cheeses.

Label / history

Giacomo Tachis selected Gewürztraminer and Sémillon—both uncommon choices in Sicily—for this equal-part passito blend. His approach reflected the belief that Sicily could accommodate any grape variety and the concept of wine as the union of sunlight and the character of the earth. The wine is dedicated to Tachis, while the label was designed by Gianfranco Ferrè.
