Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in an area influenced by sea breezes and by sharp temperature changes around harvest, which give the wine both strength and softness.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and lasts 25 days, including maceration on the skins.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12 months in large oak casks, then a further 4 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
A distinctly Mediterranean style, evident at once in generous fruit, with hints of balsamic herbs and spices.
Label / history
Folonari was founded by Francesco Folonari in 1825 in Valcamonica. In the mid-nineteenth century the family moved to Brescia, where he established a winery. He also began bottling the wine himself, still unusual in the second half of the nineteenth century. His aim was good-quality, affordable wines for everyday drinking, a philosophy the company still follows.
