Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Sangiovese is drawn from the Bosco, Alberello anfiteatro, Lupo, Strada and Quercia parcels at 450 m a.s.l. Soils include clay loam, clay schist, sandstone, galestro and tuff. The organically and biodynamically cultivated vines are 17–23 years old, planted at 4,000–5,600 vines per hectare and trained as bilateral Guyot, candelabro and alberello.
Grapes
Sangiovese.
Vinification
Harvest runs from mid-September through the end of the month. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, with 15–20 days of maceration. Most of the Bosco, Lupo, Strada and Quercia parcels are vinified separately and subsequently blended.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24–30 months in large oak casks ranging from 20 to 45 hl.
Tasting profile
This is conceived as a distinct expression of Montalcino Sangiovese rather than a second wine or a declassified Brunello. Shorter maturation preserves rustic youthfulness and exuberant fruit, alongside a savoury, earthy profile. The structure supports substantial ageing potential.
Label / history
The first vintage was 2003.
