Label / history
Carlo Gancia was born in 1829 and spent several years in Reims learning Champagne production methods. On returning to Italy, he founded his wine house in 1850 and began working in Piedmont, whose soils he considered suited to grapes for sparkling wine. His experiments with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay culminated in 1865 in an Italian sparkling wine inspired by Champagne, now known as Asti. Gancia later acquired vineyards in Puglia and Sicily for projects drawing on the potential of different regions. Cuvée Platinum is presented as a modern range informed by the house’s accumulated knowledge and experience.
