Terroir
Giodo's two recorded Toscana vineyard areas occupy south-east-facing sites with medium-textured, pebble-rich soils. The 2.5 ha area associated with Brunello di Montalcino in 2016 stood at 300 metres above sea level and contained 19-year-old vines. The 3.5 ha area associated with Toscana Rosso in 2020 stood at 400 metres and contained vines between six and ten years old.
Vinificazione
Both Toscana vineyard areas use spurred-cordon training at a density of 6,600 vines per hectare. Their stated yield is 50 q/ha. The recorded vine ages differ by area: 19 years in the 2.5 ha Brunello di Montalcino vineyard for the 2016 vintage, and six to ten years in the 3.5 ha Toscana Rosso vineyard for the 2020 vintage.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino underwent a nine-day fermentation and remained in contact with its skins for 20 days. It then matured for approximately 30 months in 500- and 700-litre oak casks, followed by additional time in concrete vats and 18 months in bottle.
The 2020 Toscana Rosso underwent a seven-day fermentation and 13 days of skin contact. Its 12-month maturation used 700-litre oak casks, 2,500-litre tapered oak tanks and 2,700-litre cocciopesto amphorae. Further maturation followed in concrete vats, with approximately six months in bottle.
