Vineyard and terroir
The name “448 s.l.m.” refers to the 448-metre elevation of Cantina Girlan’s historic farmstead. Vernatsch comes from several vineyards within the winery’s growing area. Their mineral-rich soils originated from Ice Age sediments.
Grapes
Vernatsch, the historic grape variety of Cornaiano.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand and delivered in small containers to protect them from excessive pressure. After destemming, the must ferments slowly at a controlled temperature in stainless-steel tanks. Extended maceration extracts additional colour and tannin. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine matures in concrete tanks.
