Vineyard and terroir
Argenina is one of the oldest hamlets at Monti. The estate owns three hectares of vines surrounding the restored settlement, at elevations between 310 and 375 metres above sea level. Exposures range from southeast to southwest. The medium-textured, tuffaceous sandstone soil is volcanic in origin and has a characteristic yellow-ochre colour. The vines are 15–30 years old, with yields of 60–70 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese, selected and picked by hand.
Vinification
The grapes ferment in stainless-steel vats at a lower temperature than Grosso Sanese, a choice intended to retain the intensity of their primary aromas.
Ageing
Maturation takes place entirely in small oak barrels or used barriques.
Technical data
Production is approximately 25,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
The volcanic soils give the wine an approachable, harmonious character, fresh fruit and floral aromas. Its profile combines black cherry, vanilla and cocoa with broad floral notes and sweet, well-integrated tannins. It is elegant on both nose and palate, with warm, soft and mineral sensations.
