Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The two-hectare Bertinga vineyard lies near the village of Lecchi in Chianti and has a southern exposure. A very small part of this vineyard produces Colorino. Bertinga and Argenina are listed as the source locations, at an altitude of 360 metres above sea level. The soils comprise tuffaceous sandstone, limestone and clay. The vines are 15–30 years old and trained to spurred cordon with no more than four buds. Yield is 40 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
90–100% Colorino, selected and picked by hand.
Vinification
The limited quantity of Colorino from the parcel is vinified separately. This wine was formerly used in small additions to other estate wines because of its strong colour intensity.
Ageing
After 18 months in used barriques, the wine is bottled under its own Stagi label. It rests in bottle for at least six months before release.
Technical data
Production is approximately 2,000 bottles.
Label / history
Stagi originated from the separately vinified Colorino traditionally used in small quantities to deepen the colour of other estate wines. After barrel maturation, this parcel wine is now released under its own label.
