Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Grosso Sanese comes from an approximately two-hectare vineyard beside the estate buildings at Monti in Chianti, at 400 metres above sea level. The site faces south to southeast. Its medium-textured calcareous soil consists mainly of alberese and galestro and is summarized as limestone and clay. The vines are 15–30 years old and trained to spurred cordon with no more than six buds. Yields are restricted to 50–60 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese. Only the highest-quality grapes are selected and picked by hand.
Vinification
Fermentation and maceration generally take approximately 30 days. The wine is then transferred to barriques, where malolactic fermentation continues. Final blending and bottling take place after maturation in wood.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in Allier oak barriques, followed by 12–36 months in large oak casks. It then rests in bottle for at least six months before release.
Technical data
Annual production ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 bottles, with approximately 10,000 bottles stated as the maximum.
