Storia
1919 – Family beginnings
The Poggio family acquired land on the Rovereto hill, in the Gavi region, in 1919. Winemaking began there as a pastime before becoming a lifelong passion for the family.
Franca Poggio
Franca Poggio, mother of the estate's current owner, left her job in Milan to carry on the family tradition and devote herself fully to making wine.
1976 – First wine
The estate's first wine was made in 1976, in a very limited quantity, from grapes grown in the family's small vineyard.
Today
The third generation now runs the estate, producing wines appreciated by experts and wine lovers. Azienda Agricola Il Poggio is led by Francesca Poggio, who works with oenologist Gaspar Buscemi to make the wine.
Terroir
The estate is set on the Rovereto hill, in the Gavi region, described as one of the most beautiful parts of the area. The vineyard has a south-westerly aspect.
Vinificazione
Production is kept small so that the Il Poggio winemakers can care for every vine and closely oversee every stage, from growing the grapes to bottling.
Azienda Agricola Il Poggio uses fruit from its own small vineyard to produce around 20,000 bottles of fine Italian white wine each year. The wines are known for their golden colour, expressive aroma and slightly tannic flavour, with a fairly high alcohol content.
Filosofia
The family holds that keeping production small allows the Il Poggio winemakers to care for every vine and closely oversee every stage of winemaking, from growing the grapes to bottling.
