Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Soave area of Veneto, from vineyards at the foot of Monte Foscarino. The volcanic basalt soils formed around 30 million years ago and are rich in iron and minerals. They bring out minerality, a slight smokiness and a salty depth, and keep the fruit more restrained and structured. Southern and south-western exposure allows full ripening, while the moderately continental climate, influenced by the Alps, preserves acidity and freshness. The result is an unusual Sauvignon Blanc in which the terroir is expressed perhaps even more clearly than the grape variety.

Vinification

The grapes undergo a short skin maceration of around 3 hours, followed by cold settling of the must and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then rests for around 6 months on the fine lees. A reductive approach, with limited contact with oxygen, preserves the purity and precision of the aromas and gives a more restrained, focused aromatic profile.

Ageing

Around 6 months on the fine lees, in the stainless steel of fermentation, adds a gentle roundness and a smooth, cohesive texture.

Tasting profile

Bright, mineral and refined, with subtle aromas, fresh citrus notes and an elegant sense of energy. The nose is led by citrus, white pepper and a light smoky note. Minerality, slight smokiness and salty depth run through the palate, with restrained, structured fruit and a smooth, cohesive texture.

Serving and pairing

Suited to spring and summer: lunch on a sunny terrace or a relaxed seafood dinner by the water.

Vintage notes

The description is of the 2024 vintage; it gives no account of that year's weather.

Label / history

The label carries a drawing by the Italian architect Sebastiano Serlio (1475–1554), who was part of the team that created the Palace of Fontainebleau in France and wrote many works on architecture and perspective. In 1539 a wooden theatre was built in Vicenza to his design. The drawing is "La Scena Tragica" of 1545, one of three theatrical sets he designed. The label was the idea of Nicholas Wood, an English architect and artist and a longtime friend of Stefano Inama. These reproduction labels are meant to evoke the XVII century, when winemaking flourished in the Veneto.
