Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from 20 hectares of plots in the Monte Foscarino vineyard on Foscarino hill, at 100–200 metres above sea level. The vines are around 50 years old and grow in volcanic and limestone soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, gently crushed and macerated at the winery. After settling naturally for one day, the juice ferments in stainless-steel tanks, a large barrel and French oak barriques. Old barrels and minimal intervention help shape the style.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees in stainless-steel tanks for six months, with bâtonnage every six weeks. The final blend is assembled in September and bottled in November, then ages for several more months before release.
Label / history
The style looks back to the sweet, old-fashioned wines of the Roman Empire. The label bears two heads by the English architect Inigo Jones, one of the first Englishmen to study architecture in Italy; the image also became Inama’s logo. Originally intended to represent love, the faces here depict two aspects of wine: sacred and contemplative on the right, worldly and intoxicated on the left. This presents wine as a reflection of human nature, both sacred and Bacchanalian.
The logo and label were conceived by Nicholas Wood, an English architect and artist and a longtime friend of Stefano Inama. The reproduced designs evoke the seventeenth century, when winemaking flourished in Veneto.
