Storia
Family roots
Jeio's identity derives from the Bisol family's long association with winegrowing in Valdobbiadene. A document dated 1542 records the family as winegrowers in the area then called Chartice, now Cartizze. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Eliseo Bisol developed a small but successful business. Its activity was temporarily halted by the First World War, when Valdobbiadene lay on the front between the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies.
Desiderio “Jeio” Bisol
Eliseo's son Desiderio Bisol, born in 1896, revived the family's winegrowing activity by the middle of the 1920s. After the Second World War, he travelled through the hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano on a red Moto Guzzi motorcycle, looking for steep, well-composed sites capable of expressing different yet complementary terroirs. His wife, Giovanna Bisol, affectionately called him “Jeio.” His innovative approach, lively personality and pursuit of particularly suitable vineyards became the inspiration for the later brand.
Desiderio assigned responsibilities to his four sons according to their training: Antonio handled administration, Eliseo oversaw winemaking, Aurelio managed the vineyards and Claudio directed the business as a whole.
Birth and development of Jeio
The Jeio label was created in 1996, marking the centenary of Desiderio's birth. Its name linked the new collection directly to Desiderio's nickname and to the two relationships presented as its foundations: the Bisol family's attachment to its vineyards and Giovanna's affection for her husband.
In 2014, Jeio and Bisol1542 became part of Gruppo Lunelli. The collection subsequently developed as the more contemporary, informal and cosmopolitan expression of the family's sparkling-wine tradition.
In 2023, Jeio introduced a renewed identity and set out to strengthen its cosmopolitan and contemporary positioning while retaining its connection to Bisol1542's historic expertise. The collection extended beyond a single interpretation of Prosecco to include DOCG, DOC, rosé and certified-organic offerings for different markets.
Terroir
Jeio Prosecco Superiore originates among the hills of Valdobbiadene, while the broader production identity also encompasses the hills between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano. The hill landscape has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2019.
The steepest sites are associated with heroic viticulture: their environmental conditions demand exceptional effort from both growers and vines. Grapes from these slopes contribute savoury and botanical expressions associated with elderflower and ginger. Less precipitous terrain and clay soils contribute a more tropical and fruit-led character.
The landscape is defined by pronounced slopes, with wooden posts supporting Glera canes. Jeio's style is built by selecting grapes from these differing conditions and combining the contrasting profiles of steep and gentler sites.
Vinificazione
Viticulture on the steep Valdobbiadene hills is described as heroic because the environmental conditions require unusually demanding work from growers and vines. The slopes are cultivated manually, and traditional wooden posts support the Glera canes.
Site selection has been central since Desiderio Bisol searched for steep plots with gradients and soil compositions suited to Glera. Grapes are selected from contrasting hillside environments: the steepest vineyards provide savoury and botanical components, while gentler slopes and clay soils supply tropical and fruit-led elements. A certified-organic Brut DOCG belongs to the collection, although an estate-wide organic farming status is not established.
Jeio is produced through the sparkling-wine expertise developed by Bisol1542. The historic family cellar retains its original rock-cut structure. Its position within the rock naturally maintains an annual temperature of 10–15°C.
The production concept brings together grapes selected from different hillside conditions, using the savoury and botanical contribution of the steepest vineyards alongside the tropical and fruity profile of gentler, clay-rich terrain. The cellar combines this inherited infrastructure and established know-how with the brand's contemporary interpretation of Prosecco.
Filosofia
Jeio presents itself as a synthesis of heritage and modernity. Its foundation is Bisol1542's historical winegrowing knowledge, reframed through a youthful, informal and cosmopolitan identity inspired by Desiderio “Jeio” Bisol's innovative and lively character.
The brand's stated ambition is to inspire people to express their potential positively and confidently. Its style is intended to remain connected to traditional Italian sparkling-wine craftsmanship while looking outward, seeking new inspiration and addressing an international audience.
Authenticity is tied to origin and personality: the Bisol family's attachment to its vineyards, Giovanna's affectionate nickname for Desiderio and the contrasting characters of Valdobbiadene's hillside sites. Jeio associates its wines with freshness, conviviality and the enjoyment of celebratory moments, expressed through the phrase “Jeio de Vivre.”
