Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards occupy sunny, south-facing hills in the heart of the commune of Rovereto, an area unofficially known as the Grand Cru of Gavi. The soils are volcanic and rich in iron and limestone. The vines are around 60 years old and naturally produce low yields. Fruit is drawn from selected plots.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in several passes and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
Tasting profile
Elegant.
Label / history
Solui was created in honour of Luisa, Chiara Soldati’s mother; its name is a shortened form of “Soldati Luisa”. La Scolca was founded in 1919 by Giovambattista Parodi, great-grandfather of the current owner. His son Alfredo planted the estate’s first vineyard shortly before the Second World War. The third-generation owner, Vittorio Soldati, subsequently focused the estate on white wine and established minimum yields per vine and an ideal level of ripeness for the local fruit. La Scolca released its first bottle of Gavi in 1950.
