Vineyard and terroir

The wine is made near Lake Trasimeno in Panicale, Umbria, where the climate is warm but moderate. Warm days and cool nights help the grapes keep their acidity and aromatic freshness, and let the vines, especially the more sensitive varieties, ripen slowly and evenly. This matters for the development of fruit and spice notes. The soils of the La Fiorita estate are clay-limestone. Planting density is 5,000 vines/ha, which helps manage growth and concentrate flavour in the grapes.

Grapes

Sangiovese 50%, Merlot 30%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%. Sangiovese provides freshness and juiciness, Merlot softness and roundness, and Cabernet Sauvignon structure and spice.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in September–October, depending on the variety. They macerate on their skins for around 15 days, which gives the deep ruby-red colour and enough tannin for structure. Primary fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature to preserve clean fruit aromas.

Ageing

The wine ages for 4 months in Slavonian oak tonneaux, which add spicy and vanilla notes, soften the tannins and give a rounded profile. A further 4 months in bottle allow the elements to come together.

Tasting profile

Youthful, expressive and lively, with a deep ruby-red colour. Fresh and juicy fruit, softness and roundness, structure and spice, with spicy and vanilla notes from the oak and softened tannins.

Serving and pairing

Suited to flavourful Italian dishes and family meals. It is best in the warmer months.

Label / history

"Trescone" is named after a traditional Umbrian dance performed during the harvest, representing energy, togetherness and joy. Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the winery in the 1960s, when he left the automotive business and returned to his agricultural roots. The La Fiorita estate lies on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, between the southern shore of Lake Trasimeno and the medieval town of Panicale. It covers around 100 hectares, 32 of them vineyards. Since the 1990s it has been managed by Ferruccio's daughter, Patrizia Lamborghini, and the winery works with oenologist Riccardo Cotarella.
