Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the San Lorenzo area of Friuli (Friuli-Venezia Giulia), on the gravelly, limestone-rich plateaus of the Gris, Picol and Jurosa vineyards. The sites lie at 60 m above sea level. The vines average more than 30 years of age and are Guyot-trained, with a planting density of approximately 5,200–5,600 vines per hectare. Organic fertilisers and integrated plant-health protection are used.
Vinification
The bunches are harvested and selected by hand. Fermentation takes place in 500-litre French oak barrels at a controlled temperature of 20–22 °C.
Ageing
The wine remains in the same barrels for 11 months, with frequent bâtonnage. After bottling, it matures for at least a further 12 months.
Vintage notes
In 2018, despite a hot summer, each grape variety ripened gradually, leading to what the producer considered an ideal harvest and vintage.
