Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese comes from the “Anemone” vineyard, at 450–500 m above sea level. Its stony soils contain limestone and loam, and the vines average 26 years of age. After ten years of close study of Montalcino’s terroir, Haio Loacker used sensitive infrared sensors and detailed measurements to divide the estate dynamically into micro-parcels across different zones. This work identified seven distinct vineyards, including “Anemone.”
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg crates and sorted by hand at the winery. Fermentation is spontaneous, followed by malolactic fermentation. Délestage is performed one to three times daily for five days, while the cap is punched down once daily for 20 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in tonneaux, followed by 18 months divided equally between concrete vats and terracotta vessels.
Vintage notes
The 2017 growing season in Tuscany brought severe frosts in April, followed by intense summer heat and drought. Temperatures exceeded 40 °C for several days, leading to the summer being nicknamed “Lucifer.” Frost and drought greatly reduced yields, while the surviving grapes produced rich wines.
Label / history
The wine is named after the anemone, a flower that senses and responds to the slightest breath of wind, reflecting the intended delicacy and expressiveness of “Fiore del Vento.” The 2017 vintage was bottled on 22 June 2021, with 3,000 bottles produced.
