Vineyard and terroir

Tannenberg comes from Lieben Aich in Terlan, a southwest-facing slope at 300 m. Its mild, breezy microclimate combines with permeable, sandy soil formed from weathered porphyry, giving this site a particularly pronounced mineral character.

Grapes

100% Sauvignon Blanc.

Vinification

The berries were destemmed and left to macerate in the press for 12 hours, extracting aroma and structure from the skins. Fermentation proceeded spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in wooden barrels.

Ageing

The wine matured for one year in wooden barrels on its fine lees, bringing its fruit and mineral elements together.

Technical data

The 2024 wine has 12.7% alcohol, 5.9 g/l acidity after malolactic fermentation, and 0.7 g/l residual sugar. The vineyard yield was 39 hl/ha. Production comprised 12,020 standard bottles and 221 magnums. The wine is biodynamic, Respekt-BIODYN certified, and vegan.

Tasting profile

Sparkling golden yellow. Ripe mango, papaya, and passion fruit form an intense tropical-fruit nose. The palate is full-bodied through its center, with wet-stone minerality and juicy acidity. Mineral length carries through the finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 8–10 °C in Burgundy glasses. Decanting benefits the wine in its youth. Pair with shellfish and crustaceans, grilled sea fish, or white meat. The optimal drinking window runs from 2026 through the end of 2035.

Vintage notes

The 2024 growing season brought unusually wet weather in May, June, and July, creating severe downy- and powdery-mildew pressure. A short hot period from mid-July through late August was followed by fine autumn conditions through the end of September. Energy, tension, crisp acidity, and moderate alcohol characterize the vintage. The Tannenberg grapes were harvested at the beginning of September.
