Vineyard and terroir
Marco Felluga’s vineyards cover 130 ha, most of them in Collio. The region has a mild climate influenced by the nearby sea and Alps, which bring cool air during the hottest summer days. Its mineral-rich soils consist of Eocene layers of limestone and loam and provide natural drainage that prevents rainwater from accumulating.
Vinification
The grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are vinified separately, with fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wines are blended after fermentation.
Ageing
The blend matures in barriques for 18–20 months, followed by 12 months in bottle. The 2005 vintage was expected to remain at peak maturity until 2015–2017.
Tasting profile
Complex and harmonious in aroma and flavour, with balance and a firm tannic structure. The 2005 vintage was elegant.
Label / history
The Felluga family’s winemaking history dates to the late nineteenth century, when Marco Felluga recognised Istria’s potential for cultivating local grape varieties. His son Giovanni studied oenology in Conegliano, moved the business to Grado in 1920 and relocated the family to Collio in 1950. Roberto Felluga later took charge of the family’s Marco Felluga and Russiz Superiore wineries, combining family traditions with modern technology. Collio received DOC status in 1964.
