Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from Farra d’Isonzo, San Floriano and Cormòns in the Collio DOC. The hilly terrain originated in the Eocene period and consists of layers of sandstone and loam rock, including limestone and clay. Its impermeable character channels rainwater over the surface, limiting erosion and preventing stagnant water. The vines are Guyot-trained.

Grapes

Pinot Grigio.

Vinification

The bunches are harvested by hand and destemmed. The must and pulp undergo cold maceration, followed by gentle pressing to separate the juice from the skins. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine remains on its lees for six months and then spends several additional months in bottle.

Technical data

Available in 0.375 L, 0.75 L and 1.5 L bottles. Alcohol is reported as approximately 12% on the wine page and approximately 13% in the technical sheet.

Tasting profile

Golden yellow with copper highlights. The intense bouquet features acacia blossom, broom and apple. The palate is elegant and fruity, with a full body, firm structure and a long finish.

Label / history

Mongris combines monovitigno, meaning single-varietal, with gris, the Friulian word for grey. Pinot Grigio has been cultivated in Collio since the mid-19th century.
