Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in ancient Pompeii at 100 m above sea level, on mineral-rich volcanic soils. The vines are approximately nine years old, with yields starting at 50 tonnes per hectare.
Grapes
Piedirosso is supplemented by a small proportion of Sciascinoso, also known as Olivella.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in late October and traditionally vinified on the lees at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in new French oak barrels.
