Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards grow on the Chianti area's characteristic alberese and galestro soils. Their exposure and the local climate provide suitable conditions for Sangiovese.
Grapes
Sangiovese forms the main part of the blend, supplemented by other red varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested carefully by hand. A portion is partially dried; the whole bunches are then added to must prepared from fresh grapes.
Tasting profile
The nose is fresh, fruity and floral. The palate has a strong character and is soft, velvety and well balanced, with rich fruit notes.
Label / history
Melini was founded in 1705 in Pontassieve, near Florence. Its wines were sold only in Italy until the middle of the 19th century. In 1865, Alfredo Laborel Melini developed a woven straw bottle covering that allowed the wines to be transported safely abroad. The Florence Chamber of Commerce awarded Melini a diploma and Gold Medal in 1877 for developing and strengthening international markets for Tuscan wines.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Melini acquired about 200 hectares of vineyards in the Chianti Classico area and built a winery in Gaggiano di Poggibonsi, where the company remains. Melini is part of GRUPPO ITALIANO VINI.
