Vineyard and terroir
Chardonnay is grown in selected parcels on the Tuscan coast, where sea breezes, cool nights and the soil structure support the production of a single-varietal white wine. The vineyards have clay-and-limestone soils, an east–west row orientation and a planting density of 7,575 vines per hectare. One north-facing plot required several additional days of ripening in 2022. Yield was 50 hl/ha.
Grapes
100% Chardonnay.
Vinification
Each lot was vinified separately. Whole clusters were pressed, fermentation occurred naturally, and the wine remained on its fine lees. Cellar movements relied entirely on gravity. Bottling took place without fining and with light filtration.
Ageing
Half of the wine matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, with 10% new oak. The other half matured in concrete eggs. This combination is used to build aromatic complexity while retaining freshness and an elegant texture.
Technical data
IGT Toscana Chardonnay. The 2022 yield was 50 hl/ha. Production comprised 6,627 standard bottles and 200 magnums.
Tasting profile
Bright grey-gold in color with green highlights at the rim. The nose balances apple pie and pear with gunpowder, lychee, brioche and medicinal-flower notes. The palate opens round and fresh, moves into a citrus-driven middle with pear and white peach, and develops vanilla and lemon-tart accents.
Vintage notes
The 2022 season was hot and dry, with rainfall well below normal. Two significant rain events arrived at critical moments just before budbreak and flowering, helping the vines build sufficient reserves for the summer drought without excessive vegetative growth. Mid-July was nearly torrid, but vine resilience and living soils supported sound ripening, slightly earlier than usual for Chardonnay. Seventy-five percent of the vineyard was picked on 4–5 August, while the north-facing plot was harvested on 10 August.
Label / history
The wine is a limited-production, single-varietal Chardonnay from the Tuscan coast, shaped through detailed vineyard work and maturation in both French oak and concrete.
