Vineyard and terroir
The Syrah and Grenache grow on one of the estate’s leading slopes, around a century-old cork oak and beside Mediterranean maquis. This setting is associated with the wine’s characteristic lavender, rosemary and thyme aromas. The clay-and-limestone soil contains eroded stones; planting density is 7,575 vines per hectare and rows run north–south. Yield in 2021 was 40 hl/ha.
Grapes
The 2021 blend is 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache. Syrah contributes spice and full-bodied structure, while Grenache brings freshness, elegance and fruit.
Vinification
Fruit underwent rigorous block selection. Fermentation took place naturally in stainless-steel tanks and barrels, with gravity-fed handling and manual punch-downs. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
Ageing
Seventy percent of the wine matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, with 30% new oak. The remaining 30% matured in concrete eggs.
Technical data
IGT Toscana Rosso. The 2021 yield was 40 hl/ha. Production comprised 7,873 standard bottles, 200 magnums, 60 double magnums and 30 five-litre bottles.
Tasting profile
Shiny, deep aubergine in color, with purple and pink at the rim. Violet and lavender lead the aromatic profile, followed by blueberry jam, thyme, white pepper and tobacco. The palate begins soft and velvety, becoming dense and fresh through the middle, with raspberry and a progression toward fresh rose and lilac notes.
Vintage notes
Frost affected Tuscany during the night of 7–8 April 2021, with temperatures falling to −1.5°C in parts of the vineyard. Burning straw bales, the estate’s proximity to the sea and delayed budding associated with late pruning and cane bending kept losses low. Spring remained dry but cooler than average, and June and July were not excessively hot. Warm August conditions accelerated ripening. Syrah and Grenache were picked during the first days of September, comparatively late by the estate’s usual schedule.
Label / history
Tinata is conceived as a Mediterranean cuvée combining Syrah’s spicy power with Grenache’s freshness, elegance and fruit, while its vineyard setting reinforces its herbal character.
