Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow on estate plots in the Maremma microzone on Tuscany’s Tyrrhenian coast. The nearby sea, mountains and hills create a mild, sunny microclimate with marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures.
Vinification
Each variety is harvested entirely by hand at optimal ripeness, and fruit from the different plots is vinified separately. Spontaneous fermentation takes place partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in oak barrels, with regular manual punch-downs. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new.
Tasting profile
Complex and structured yet elegant, with power and depth. Its rich aromas and flavours become more expressive over time. The 2017 vintage is particularly aromatic, evoking a Mediterranean garden cooled by a sea breeze.
Vintage notes
The 2017 growing season had relatively little rainfall and a spring that was not especially warm. Maintaining soil moisture therefore required particular attention during the summer. Merlot and the first block of Cabernet Sauvignon were picked from 15 August; most of the remaining Cabernet and Petit Verdot was harvested during the first half of September. Careful harvest timing contributed to a successful crop.
