Storia
1845 onwards
In 1845 Benedictine monks moved from Muri in Switzerland to Gries in South Tyrol, where they found a home in an Augustinian monastery. They brought their knowledge of grape growing and winemaking, which developed into a style shaped by the combination of monastery, winery and estate.
Since 1989
"Abtei Muri" ("Muri Abbey") has been made since 1989 from grapes grown on the estate's best sites. Muri-Gries entered the 21st century with a broad range of premium wines.
The vineyards have belonged to the monastery for centuries, and the team has always kept a close connection with the monastery.
Vinificazione
The cellar uses temperature-controlled stainless steel fermenters alongside large oak casks and barriques, combining gentle, time-tested winemaking methods with modern equipment. "Abtei Muri" has been made since 1989.
Filosofia
The winery states that passion for the craft, experience and knowledge come together to deliver consistently high quality while allowing it to keep evolving. Respect for tradition, confidence in its grape varieties and trust in the spirit and expertise of its technical team remain at its heart. Combined with progress and innovation, these values shape its approach to winemaking. The winery describes the connection between spiritual life and the vine as continuing today.
