Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie around Magrè at the foot of a gentle slope, between 220 and 350 metres above sea level, with south to south-east exposure. Their white calcareous gravel soils are rich in humus. Warm summers, mild winters and the Ora—the warm afternoon wind arriving from Lake Garda—shape the Mediterranean climate.
Grapes
100% Merlot.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks with gentle pumping over.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in barriques, followed by a further year in bottle.
Tasting profile
The colour is an evolving ruby red with golden reflections and excellent density. The nose is precise, led by maraschino cherries with spice and liquorice underneath. The palate is deep and slightly saline, with crunchy tannins and a persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18 °C with venison and polenta or beef braised in Barolo. Store in a cool place at 10–13 °C and at no less than 60% humidity.
