Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay comes from a gentle slope in Magrè at 300–400 m, facing south and south-east. The soil is white chalky gravel with well-ventilated humus. The Mediterranean climate brings hot summers, mild winters, warm afternoon winds and temperature swings of as much as 20 °C under the influence of descending winds.
Grapes
100% Chardonnay.
Vinification
The grapes are selectively harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in small oak barrels.
Ageing
For the 2020 vintage, the technical sheet specifies 18 months of fermentation and ageing in small oak barrels, followed by assemblage, 9 months in stainless-steel tanks and one year in bottle. A James Suckling note published alongside the wine instead describes 15 months in barrel, 3 months in stainless steel and 8 months in Stockinger casks, followed by about one year in bottle.
Technical data
Alto Adige DOC. Approximately 2,000 bottles were produced from the 2020 vintage.
Tasting profile
The 2020 tasting notes describe crème brûlée, lightly buttered biscuit, cooked apple, tarte Tatin and flint, with a creamy, medium-to-full-bodied palate, vivid acidity and a complex finish. A second note emphasizes sweet peach, honey and baked apple, together with a viscous, creamy texture and a particularly long, silky finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C. Store at 10–13 °C with at least 60% humidity.
Vintage notes
The 2020 is considered a wine that needs time to reveal its full character and is recommended from 2026 onward.
