Vineyard and terroir
Obern Berg comes from Nals Margreid’s highest vineyards in the Bassa Atesina of Alto Adige. The sites stand at 500–600 m and face east to southeast. Their soils consist entirely of limestone gravel with a high proportion of humus. A Mediterranean climate moderated by cool downslope winds extends the growing season and permits a late harvest in mid-October.
Grapes
100% Müller Thurgau.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand. After clarification, the must ferments for approximately three weeks in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The young wine matures on its fine lees for a further five months before bottling.
Technical data
Alto Adige DOC. Recommended storage conditions are 10–13 °C and at least 60% humidity.
Tasting profile
Pale straw yellow with medium colour depth. Fresh lychee and white-peach aromas are complemented by an undertone of fresh sage. The palate is dense, crisp and savoury, with enveloping acidity and a floral finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with smoked salmon and butter or a horseradish frittata.
