Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from 7 hectares of vineyards in Fracia, within the Valtellina Superiore area, at 350–500 metres above sea level. Across the Nino Negri estate, vineyards lie at 300–1,000 metres and have favourable exposure that assists ripening. The estate covers 34 hectares, including 11 hectares used for planting young vineyards.
Grapes
Nebbiolo is known locally as Chiavennasca.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested exclusively by hand, fairly late, at the end of October. Fermentation lasted eight days at a controlled temperature of 24–28 °C. The young wine then underwent malolactic fermentation in small oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine remained in small oak barrels for 15 months, followed by a further six months in the winery’s cellars after bottling.
Label / history
Nino Negri was founded in Lombardy in 1897.
