Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Valtellina at 400–450 metres above sea level. Nino Negri's vineyards as a whole range from 300 to 1,000 metres and have favourable exposure. The estate covers 34 hectares, with 11 hectares being planted with young vines.
Grapes
Nebbiolo is known locally as Chiavennasca.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, dried for three months and then macerated for 12 days using a traditional red-winemaking method.
Ageing
The young wine matures for 16 months in French barrels made from Allier and Nevers oak.
Label / history
The name “5 Stelle” means “5 Stars”. Nino Negri is a historic Lombardy estate founded in 1897.
