Vineyard and terroir

Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia comes from the Ornellaia estate and looks toward the Mediterranean Sea. Its identity combines coastal freshness with richness and a self-assured structure.

Grapes

Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2024): 55% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Vermentino, 3% Semillon and 2% Viognier.

Vinification

The bunches were picked by hand into small 15 kg boxes in the early morning and chilled immediately upon arrival at the cellar to preserve aromatic compounds. Following meticulous selection, the intact bunches underwent very slow, gradual pressing with careful protection against oxidation. After 24 hours of static settling, the must lots were transferred to barriques—25% new and 25% used—as well as stainless-steel tanks, concrete vats, amphorae and Wine Globes, which accounted for 50%. Fermentation remained below 20°C. Malolactic fermentation was prevented.

Ageing

The wine matured on fine lees for 8 months with regular bâtonnage. Light fining preceded bottling, followed by another 8 months of bottle maturation before release.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13.5% vol.

Tasting profile

The 2024 is a deep, lively yellow. Its intense bouquet features ripe mango, wildflowers and almonds. The palate is soft, full and richly flavoured, balanced by lively acidity that supplies freshness. Refined notes of acacia and rose petals shape the long finish.

Vintage notes

An early growing season followed mild, rainy conditions that established excellent water reserves. Persistent rain continued to support vine development but demanded careful vineyard management. Warm, sunny weather from late June slowed vine vigour at véraison in late July, assisting concentration and aromatic development. Localised storms in mid-August brought variable rainfall and supported complete ripening. From early September, alternating sunny, cool and occasionally rainy conditions accompanied the harvest, maintaining fruit health and balancing concentration. The vintage developed freshness, balance and aromatic intensity.
