Vineyard and terroir
The estate’s vineyards are in Bolgheri, Tuscany, close to the Tyrrhenian Sea. They cover 97 ha and benefit from a mild Mediterranean climate and soils that favour ripening. Grapes are harvested by hand when they reach optimal ripeness.
Vinification
Winemaking methods are adapted to the character of each harvest. Grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately to preserve the distinctions between sites.
Label / history
The 2018 edition, La Grazia (“Grace”), is the 13th release in the Vendemmia d’Artista series. Its labels were created by Belgian artist Jan Fabre, whose work spans sculpture, choreography, playwriting and screenwriting.
Established in 2006, Vendemmia d’Artista pairs each vintage with an artist’s interpretation of that year and a single word intended to express its character. Earlier editions were L’Esuberanza (“Abundance”), L’Armonia (“Harmony”), L’Energia (“Energy”), L’Equilibrio (“Balance”), La Celebrazione (“Celebration”), L’Infinito (“Infinity”), L’Incanto (“Charm”), L’Eleganza (“Elegance”), L’Essenza (“Essence”), Il Carisma (“Charisma”), La Tensione (“Tension”) and Solare (“Solar”). Large-format bottles from the series are sold at auction to support charitable foundations involved in restoring artworks and monuments.
Tenuta dell’Ornellaia was founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori and is now part of the Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi group.
