Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in clay-limestone soils along the shore of Lake Garda, at Peschiera del Garda. White clay gives the soil its distinctive structure and minerality. The climate is mild, and the grapes ripen well. The text says the vineyards are planted mainly with Trebbiano.
Vinification
Harvest is entirely by hand, from late September to late October, into small 17 kg crates. Most of the crop is gently pressed as whole bunches; the rest is destemmed using light vibration. The juice settles naturally so that solid particles separate. Fermentation is slow, at a controlled 14–18 °C.
Ageing
6–8 months on the fine lees.
Label / history
"Le Creete" is the estate's signature wine. According to legend, the winery's name goes back to the 16th century, as suggested by a coat of arms still kept in the estate's courtyard. G. B. Perez's 1900 book "La provincia di Verona ed i suoi vini" states that in the 16th century the winery was known as the only producer from Verona.
Azienda Agricola Ottella is in Peschiera del Garda, on the southern shore of Lake Garda. It is owned by the brothers Ludovico and Francesco Montresor and their father, Michele, who combine respect for local winemaking traditions with modern technology. The estate's philosophy centres on delicate, elegant wines.
