Storia
The Rodaro family is first mentioned on 23 March 1846, when a deed was signed transferring land in Spessa di Cividale del Friuli to the family. The land has been used to grow vines since then. Paolo Rodaro is the sixth generation of winemakers to carry the family name. He continues to research and experiment with planting endangered grape varieties such as Picolit, Schioppettino and Pignolo.
Terroir
The vineyards lie in Spessa di Cividale del Friuli. The soil is marl, known locally as "ponca", and the area has a favorable microclimate.
Vinificazione
All work is done by hand. The company takes part in a project to reduce the use of chemicals in farming and lessen its environmental impact. Endangered varieties such as Picolit, Schioppettino and Pignolo are demanding to grow.
The winery uses only grapes from its own vineyards and does all work by hand. Tradition is combined with experimentation and innovation, with the focus on quality rather than quantity. Average production is 200,000 bottles a year.
Filosofia
The winery holds that tradition goes hand in hand with experimentation and innovation, with the focus on wine quality rather than quantity. Through his wines, Paolo Rodaro aims to express the harmony between color, delicate aromas and the individual character of each grape variety. He holds that the effort of growing demanding endangered varieties is rewarded with fascinating, complex wines.
