Vineyard and terroir

Bric dël Fiasc® comes from the Fiasco cru in Castiglione Falletto. The vineyard lies at 260 metres above sea level and faces south-west. Its soils combine Marne di Sant’Agata fossili and limestone. Tortonian and Helvetian formations meet here, bringing together whitish-grey limestone and yellow-grey sandstone. The vines were planted in 1979, 1984, 2009, 2012 and 2013.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Tasting profile

The meeting of the vineyard’s geological formations is reflected in a combination of finesse and power. This is a structured, classically styled Nebbiolo that needs time to reveal its full complexity. Its texture carries an earthy imprint, dense fruit and vibrant yet refined tannins. Acidity supports the substantial structure and gives lift to a complex, mineral and balsamic nose. Small red fruits and liquorice are characteristic aromatic notes.

Label / history

The quality of the Nebbiolo grown in Fiasco prompted Enrico Scavino to persuade his father Paolo to vinify the site separately in 1978. It became one of the early single-vineyard Barolos and an important expression of the Paolo Scavino estate’s identity.
