Vineyard and terroir
The estate’s Barolo Riserva comes from Rocche dell’Annunziata, a historic cru in La Morra acquired by the Scavino family in 1990. The vineyard is situated at 385 metres above sea level with south-south-eastern exposure. Its calcareous soils contain very hard sandstone at depth, while the subsoil consists of soft whitish to light-yellow sands interspersed with limestone. The vines were planted in 2000, 2010 and 2013.
Grapes
Nebbiolo.
Ageing
Compared with the estate’s other Barolos, Rocche dell’Annunziata is normally given one additional year in large cask and one further year of bottle maturation.
Tasting profile
The wine is defined by finesse, precision and an almost weightless elegance. Its ethereal aromatic range includes rose petals, violet, lilac, tar, sweet red cherries, mint and mineral notes. On the palate, silky layers overlap with grace while retaining intensity.
