Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown near Menfi, at 200–250 metres above sea level, on medium-textured, pebble-rich soils.
Grapes
Sauvignon Blanc is included in the blend to provide balance and additional freshness.
Vinification
In 2019, Grecanico was harvested from 25 to 28 September and Sauvignon Blanc on 30 and 31 August. The grapes were destemmed, gently pressed and cold-macerated, then fermented in stainless-steel tanks at 15 °C.
Ageing
The wine remained in the fermentation tanks for four months.
Label / history
Alastro takes its name from a wild shrub whose yellow flowers bloom in spring throughout the valley around Lake Arancio. The wine pays tribute to Grecanico, a native Sicilian variety cultivated on the island for more than 2,000 years.
