Vineyard and terroir
The Tenuta Plozner estate lies at Barbeano di Spilimbergo, in the heart of the Friuli Grave area, at 140 metres above sea level. Its vineyards occupy an upper Friulian plain between Pordenone and Udine. The soils, locally called Magredi or terre magre, consist of alluvial gravel deposited over millennia by the Meduna, Cellina and Tagliamento rivers following the retreat of the Alpine glaciers. Stones and gravel account for approximately 70% of the plain and provide effective drainage during the region’s abundant spring rainfall.
The Carnic Alps shelter the area from cold northerly winds, while nearby maritime currents moderate the climate. The estate comprises 43 hectares of vines planted at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare and trained to Guyot. Sauvignon is represented by several clonal selections.
