Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Tenuta Plozner at Barbeano di Spilimbergo, in the Friuli Grave area. The estate lies at 140 m above sea level on an upper Friulian plain composed of approximately 70% stones and gravel. These alluvial deposits were carried by the Meduna, Cellina and Tagliamento rivers following the melting of the Alpine glaciers. The freely draining, relatively infertile ground limits the crop. The Carnic Alps offer protection from cold northern winds, while nearby maritime currents moderate the climate.
The vines are Guyot trained, planted at 6,000 vines/ha and oriented north–south. Tenuta Plozner comprises 43 ha of vines and has been under conversion to organic farming since its acquisition by Cristiana Bettili in 2013.
Grapes
Glera 10%.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested mechanically and pressed within 20 minutes of picking. The second fermentation takes place in a pressurized tank using the Charmat method; the sparkling-wine process is carried out in the estate cellar.
Tasting profile
A fine, elegant stream of bubbles accompanies clear pear aromas. The palate is direct and easy to drink, driven by a lively acidic vein.
Serving and pairing
Suitable as an aperitif and throughout a fish-based meal.
