Vineyard and terroir

The vineyards are at Barbeano di Spilimbergo, in the heart of Friuli Grave, at 140 m above sea level. The gravelly soils are alluvial in origin and consist of approximately 70% stones and gravel, materials deposited by the Meduna, Cellina and Tagliamento rivers following the retreat of the Alpine glaciers. The well-drained, lean ground naturally restricts yields. The Carnic Alps protect the area from cold northern winds, while nearby maritime currents moderate the climate.

The vines are Guyot trained with north–south row orientation. Across the 43-hectare estate, planting density is 6,000 vines per hectare.

Grapes

80% Moscato Giallo, 15% Malvasia Istriana and 5% Sauvignon.

Vinification

Selected overripe grapes are picked by hand, arranged in boxes and allowed to dry. After the drying period, the fruit is gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

Matured in stainless steel.

Tasting profile

Bright gold with amber highlights. The aroma combines dried apricot, candied citrus peel and honey. The palate is enveloping and sweet without becoming cloying, its richness balanced by freshness and a mineral character.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with dry pastries or blue cheeses. Regional suggestions include Gubana and Spilimbergo almond cake.

Label / history

Tenuta Plozner was founded by Lisio Plozner in the 1960s. Cristiana Bettili acquired the estate in 2013 and began converting the vineyards to organic cultivation.
