Vineyard and terroir

The Guyot-trained vines average approximately 60 years of age and stand at about 550 m on sandy, silty soils. Planting density is 4,500 vines/ha and grape yield approximately 8,000 kg/ha, with a must-to-fruit ratio near 70%. Values may vary by vintage.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo, harvested and selected by hand. The grapes are not dried.

Vinification

Two days of cold maceration are followed by five days on the skins.

Ageing

The wine matures for 48 months in the 10,000-litre chestnut cask numbered 042.

Technical data

Approximately 13.0% alcohol, 28 g/L dry extract, 5.3 g/L total acidity and less than 1 g/L total sugar. Production is approximately 13,000 bottles. These figures may vary by vintage. The wine is bottled in 75 cl format and has a suggested shelf life of ten years.

Tasting profile

Accessible, fruity and elegant, with a fresh, harmonious character. Gentle floral tones lead into an aromatic palate whose softness spreads broadly through the mouth. Cherries, dried plums and elderberries define a nuanced profile, underlaid by softly enveloping tannins.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18 °C. Pair with red meat, roast with plum sauce and home-style dishes, or enjoy informally with friends.

Label / history

The wine takes its name from the 10,000-litre chestnut cask numbered 042 in which it matures. A thin sheet of wood used for the label echoes the cask and the wine's identity.
