Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the Manduria area. The estate's vineyards also extend into the areas of Veglie and Torricella, following the acquisition of Masca del Tacco. The warmth of the land, the influence of the sea, the distinctive local climate and the work of the farmers all shape the wines of Masca del Tacco.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and crushed, then placed in stainless steel tanks. The must ferments there at a controlled temperature for 20–30 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12–18 months in large French oak barrels.
Serving and pairing
Pairs with mushroom pasta, roasted or grilled meats, and lamb.
Label / history
In 2010 Felice Mergè, drawing on the experience of his father, Armando, bought and renovated a building that had housed the Municipal Cooperative of Erchie Producers, operating since 1949. He renamed it Masca del Tacco and restored the winery, equipping it with modern facilities and introducing production methods intended to improve quality while preserving traditional character.
The 2014 and 2015 vintages won gold medals at the Berliner Wine Trophy, and the 2016 vintage won a gold medal at Mundus Vini.
