Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in Ruffoli and Dudda, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti. The vineyard area consists of hills and terraced slopes. Average elevation is 450 m, while the Chardonnay grows at approximately 370 m. Exposures range from west to southwest, with the Chardonnay parcels facing southwest. The soil is sandy, rich in loam and notably rocky.
The principal vines are more than 50 years old, while the Chardonnay vines are approximately 21 years old. Training systems are Guyot and cordon, with Chardonnay trained to Cordon de Royat.
Grapes
Trebbiano Toscano and Chardonnay; proportions are not stated. Some of the white grapes from these vineyards are also destined for Richiari.
Vinification
Harvest takes place during the second half of September. The grapes are cooled before pressing, after which the must remains in contact with the skins for a period of time. Following careful separation, alcoholic fermentation proceeds under temperature control.
Trebbiano is vinified as a white wine. Chardonnay receives cold pre-fermentation maceration and soft pressing before fermentation in new 60-gallon oak barrels.
Ageing
Trebbiano matures for 10 months in stainless-steel tanks. Chardonnay remains on its lees, with lees stirring during the first three months, and continues ageing in the same barrels for a total of 9–10 months in wood. Bottling takes place in June or July, followed by at least six months in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 13%. Average annual production is approximately 1,000 bottles of 750 ml, packed six bottles per case.
Tasting profile
Bright and lively, with a pale-yellow hue. The slightly aromatic nose shows delicate passion-fruit, pear, broom and yellow-peach notes. The palate is fresh and energetic, with a refreshing acidic edge and a long aromatic aftertaste.
The 2025 presentation also describes a fresh, fragrant and fruit-driven profile, with green apple, banana and pineapple, moderate alcohol and an easy-drinking character.
Serving and pairing
Suitable as an aperitif or alongside summer dishes, particularly cold preparations. Its freshness and approachable character also suit outdoor summer gatherings and informal meals throughout the year.
Label / history
Chiara Aurora was first produced in 2014. A revised expression, introduced in 2019, brings together white grapes from Ruffoli and Dudda and incorporates Chardonnay associated with the production of Richiari.
