Vineyard and terroir

Rio Sordo MGA. The 2021 technical sheet records 4.5 hectares with southwest exposure. The soil is clay-limestone with sandy veins. Grapes for the release came from vineyards owned by Alutto and Marengo.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at 30°C, followed by 28 days of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation is completed.

Ageing

The wine matures for 30 months in oak casks and for a further nine months in bottle. The main specification describes 25–50 hl oak casks and a minimum of 30 months in wood. The 2021 was bottled in May 2025.

Technical data

Production of the 2021 amounted to 13,333 bottles.

Tasting profile

Rio Sordo is elegant and medium-bodied, with spicy fruit and silky, persistent tannins. The 2021 is complex, showing intense, mature red fruit, balanced tannins and a persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Pair with pasta and risotto, white or red meats, and game. Cellaring potential is approximately 30 years from the harvest.

Rio Sordo was the last cru to join the Produttori range and was first produced in 1978.
