Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the 10 ha Poggio Valente vineyard at Pereta, in Magliano in Toscana, 350 m above sea level. Its steeply sloping terrain has a sand-rich surface layer over sandstone-derived rock mixed with clay. The southwest-facing vines were planted between 1996 and 2005 at a density of 4,500 vines per hectare and are trained as spur-pruned cordons. Yield is 70 quintals per hectare (7 t/ha), and harvest takes place in the second half of September.
