Vineyard and terroir

Ochetti has historical roots in vineyards on the sandy hills along the left bank of the Tanaro River and also draws on Ratti vineyards in the Langhe. The technical sheet describes its vineyard soils as sandy and calcareous.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in steel. The technical sheet specifies harvesting in September and October and approximately 7–8 days of skin contact; the main page gives October and approximately 10 days, respectively.

Ageing

Approximately 8 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by approximately 4 months in bottle.

Tasting profile

Pale ruby red. The nose is fine, delicate and persistent, with nuances recalling wild strawberries and raspberries. The palate is velvety and pleasantly bitter, combining lightness with fullness. Smooth tannins, red-fruit fragrance, elegance and harmonious drinkability define the style.

Serving and pairing

Suited to spit-roasted and grilled red meats, game, truffled fondue, agnolotti, and Italian preparations of white or red meat, including dishes with spiced sauces.

Label / history

Ochetti is a historic Ratti wine whose first vintage was 1969. Nebbiolo from the sandy hills on the left bank of the Tanaro was already known and appreciated in the cellars of the House of Savoy from the seventeenth century.

Renato Ratti created the historic “soldier” label as a tribute to the heroism of Piedmontese regiments in the eighteenth century. The wine is presented in the Albeisa bottle, named after Alba and created by Renato Ratti in 1973 to identify the territory and its wines.
