Storia
Serafino Rivella founded Rivella Serafino di Rivella Teobaldo. He planted young vines in 1960 and released his first wine in 1967. His son Teobaldo joined him in 1974 and later took over the family business. Little has changed at the estate over the years.
Terroir
The Montestefano vineyard is in Piedmont, in the Barbaresco area. It has very steep slopes and white limestone soils.
Vinificazione
Organic farming methods remain the norm. The vines are treated only with copper and sulfur, and only when needed. Teobaldo works alone in the vineyard.
The wine cellar is in the basement of Teobaldo Rivella's home, beside the vineyard. Teobaldo's wife, Maria, helps him make the wine. The estate makes just one wine, about 11,000 bottles a year, which does not meet the strong demand.
Filosofia
The family has no plans to expand its holdings. It holds that the land it already has is enough to express its appreciation and love for the land and the grapes.
