Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the estate’s oldest vines, planted at 200 m above sea level in deep limestone and tuff soils.
Grapes
The blend comprises 70% native Nero di Troia and 30% other red varieties, using selected grapes.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the second-to-last week of October. They macerate for 15 days in 120-litre stainless-steel tanks, with frequent mixing of the must and délestage.
Ageing
The wine is divided into two equal lots and matured for 14 months. One half rests in 30-litre French oak barriques and the other in similar 225-litre barrels. After bottling, it spends one year in the winery’s cool cellars.
Tasting profile
Elegant and complex.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, who built Castel del Monte to pursue his passion for falconry. The castle later gave its name to the nearby DOC and DOCG wine regions.
